Full Moon

14 October 2008

16:02 EDT

Moon 21 Aries

Mars in Scorpio is final dispositor; Mercury is stationing to go direct in 7 Libra; Venus is in 25 Scorpio; Saturn and Uranus approach opposition; Neptune 21 Aquarius; Pluto 28 Sagittarius; Jupiter squares Sun and Moon.

It’s the middle of October, this Moon is bright and cool. We’ve had Mercury retrograde for three weeks, slowing the pace of our thoughts, narrowing the randomness of thought by turning its gaze inward. This Aries Moon promises energy, but it’s an energy with a recent history of scattering. Now a focus begins to come in, making a mirror of the face of the Moon. Mars gathers strength from each of the planets and offers it for our use.

On Tuesday the 14th, we can welcome the Full Moon, draw in its call to action, focus on the lessons we’ve learned from looking within and seek to use our actions to empower ourselves through our own decisions. Decisiveness is the order of the day. Action will flow along the track the mind has set. This particular sense of power will come from seeing where the mind has been, recognizing the track your mind likes to lay down and channeling energy along that path. This track has a Scorpio energy, so it’s deep and focused, even obsessive in its commitment to your core beliefs.

On the 15th, Mercury goes direct, bringing added impetus to put thought into action—whatever it is you’ve been ruminating on, now is the time to put it into motion. Or if it’s rooted in the past, maybe you can finally see it for what it was and leave it behind—like finding the traction under the tires that gets the car to leap out of a ditch. As the energy in this Full Moon continues to unwind, Venus moves into Sagittarius on the 18th and gives us a higher perspective for the weekend. Keep an eye on the purpose that underlies your drive. On Tuesday and Wednesday, the 21st and 22nd, we can expect to find a sharp focus as still more energy comes to us from that Aries Full Moon. This whole week will be great for focused activity, developing inner resources, allowing distractions to fall away. Stick to your purpose and convert all your energy to serve it. Sunday the 26th, we’re likely to be in an overly bright frame of mind—thinking, it seems, of everything. I might even feel I’m doing the thinking for some of the people I’m with. Slowing down is not on the menu, but we can organize our thoughts so they add up to something. Do the thinking, share the thoughts, check what they add up to and then—come Tuesday the 28th and the Scorpio New Moon—take the action that puts your thoughts in motion.

New Moon

28 October 2008

19:14 EDT

Moon 5 Scorpio

Mars in Scorpio disposits Sun and Moon; Mercury is leaving the shadow of its retrograde through Libra; Pluto is in the last degree of Sagittarius; Saturn and Uranus approach opposition and are squared by Venus in Sagittarius.

This Scorpio Moon will usher in the 2008 elections in the United States, which are now one week away. At this juncture we’ll experience an unsettling feeling, keeping an over-the-shoulder watch. Intimations of revolt are in the air, and not unwelcome. Most of all, we’ll feel the need for fresh thinking and new authority, though heading into this week we’ll find our nation apprehensive toward one choice and mistrustful of the other. Too bad there’s not a third party, because with only these two we’ll feel we have no choice to make, there’s only the one we’ve already made.

Election Day deserves special mention. The first of five oppositions between Saturn and Uranus perfects that very day, signaling upheaval and reverberating with the historical struggle between the authorities who maintain an established order and the nonconformists who feel it’s worth all costs to revolt. My sense is that authority will win the day, but powerful seeds of rebellion will be planted deep. Those seeds will sprout when the time is right.

But let’s begin from the 28th of October and a New Moon in Scorpio. The theme of empowerment carries through from the Aries Full Moon. This whole week we’ll do well to keep doing. It’s not a time for contemplation; rather we can put into action the notions we’ve gained from inner reflection over the past month. If you are drawn into any sort of conformity/freedom polarity, go toward freedom. Exercise your breakaway energy and you’ll find the leash is quite elastic this week. That advice holds all the way through the 31st.

The following week brings confrontation, beginning with personal conflict between what we enjoy and share with our friends and the aspects of a social or career role that we find stifling. Listen to your friends, acknowledge what makes you happy, then apply that information to the role that’s making you feel stuck so you can crack it open and create a change instead of smashing it completely and walking away. If you truly explore the possibilities, you’ll see the changes you can make. When you listen to friends, select the ones who encourage your highest perspective.

Monday the 10th brings a positive shift. Remember the conflict that made you want to break away: Now conjure up your greatest optimism and look for a fresh identity in your onerous role, an identity that serves your most personal purpose. See if you can become the go-to person in the situation, the one who has just the right card to play. Learn what your trump card is and know when to lay it on the table. Just before you do, check one time with a friend, then make the play.

Full Moon

13 November 2008

01:17 EST

Moon 21 Taurus

Mars in Scorpio is final dispositor; Venus and the Moon are out of bounds; early in this Taurus Moon, Venus conjuncted Pluto and then entered Capricorn; Moon is in a grand trine with Saturn and Jupiter in earth signs; Sun and Moon square Neptune.

This Taurus Moon on Thursday the 13th brings in some smoothness after a period of tension: The issues of power seem to relax for a moment, soothed by an awareness that in a practical sense we have what we need—and we probably always will. But this respite will be based on a certain amount of wishfulness or idealism. Watch for that in your own affairs. Taurus Moons usually come with a feeling of comfort, a sense of being at home. We'll get that, but then a need to be on guard sneaks in before the Moon leaves Taurus Thursday afternoon.

Saturday the 15th we see some cause for being on guard and we feel justified. That feeling gets rationalized as we move into Sunday and we find a whole lot of reasons for self-justification. By Monday we can dispel the more illusory notions of comfort that the Taurus Moon lent us, and we'll move through the week with a pretty solid sense of our own and other people's motives and intentions.

Friday the 21st brings the Sun into Sagittarius, and that weekend we'll feel a lot of the Sagittarius warmth and enthusiasm. It's a good chance to take advantage of optimism. Seriously, think your happiest thoughts well into the next week, and see how far your mind can reach with positive planning.

We're seeing a shift of all our power structures as Pluto now begins a 16-year cycle in Capricorn, and this week we can find within ourselves the legacy of Pluto in Sagittarius. Look for the positive effects, your highest aspirations to use power for the sake of justice.

Thursday the 27th brings a New Moon at 5 Sagittarius, a good moment to set an intention for empowering yourself through expanding your perspective. Plus it’s our day of Thanksgiving.
