New Moon with solar eclipse
26 January 2009
02:55 a.m. EST
6 Aquarius
Sun and Moon are at 6 Aquarius; we have an annular solar eclipse,
meaning the Moon covers the Sun but leaves a ring of light. It will
be visible in the Indian Ocean and western Indonesia. Saturn is
retrograde at 21 Virgo; all the other planets are within an arc
of 81 degrees from early Capricorn to late Pisces.
Mercury is retrograde in Capricorn, placing it in mutual reception
with Saturn. Venus semisextiles Neptune; Mercury sextiles Venus;
Mars semisextiles Neptune; Mercury conjuncts Mars; and Mercury semisextiles
Neptune before this Moon leaves Aquarius. Jupiter, Sun, Mercury
and Pluto are parallel in declination. Mercury will station to go
direct on Feb. 1, and Saturn will oppose Uranus on Feb. 5.
Happy Lunar New Year! With the New Moon on Monday, Jan. 26, we begin
the Year of the Ox. And we celebrate it with a solar eclipse at
6 Aquarius. In the United States we are winding down a week of celebration
over the inauguration of Barack Obama as the 44th president. The
mood has been decidedly Aquarian, with a very
long wish list that’s been growing ever since the election
results came in on Nov. 4. Now we’ll feel a pause and a nagging
feeling that we will need to revise that list.
So we go from a burst of optimism and revival of spirit to revision
and adjustment of expectations and commitments. Look at the whole
picture: A revival means something has not been vital, and now the
vitality is back. That vitality will guide our revision, allowing
us to keep our optimism in the face of challenges, exactly what,
for example, President Obama is calling on us to do. Mercury is
still retrograde with this eclipse, giving us good impetus to revise
and reformulate. At the same time there’s a concentration
of planets in Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces, bringing us together
for the common good. There’s a wonderful difference between
coming together and being driven together, and we’ll feel
we are coming together now. With purpose. For the common good. I
feel this eclipse can be used to shed separatism. We will see losses,
perhaps become freshly aware of losses we hadn’t counted before
this week, yet resolve to get up and move on, with a lighter step.
On Sunday the 25th and Monday the 26th, look for what you want to
release so you can move more lightly toward your goals. See what
releases easily and let it go. It’s making room for new things
to come in. Your hands are open when you’re not carrying things
in them.
Tuesday, let it go even more. Reach for the new. Bring in a new
talent and make a new effort in the direction that is open before
you. On Wednesday and Thursday, think of others. You are not alone.
Your movement in your direction creates one strand in a rope. There
are many strands.
Friday and Saturday will bring good moments to settle any past issues.
Contact someone from your past. You’ll be ready to learn something
that moves you ahead.
Sunday, Feb. 1, let your reflections resolve toward commitment.
Mercury is now direct again; our thinking gives new direction to
our feet.
Monday you’re ready to connect with the people you feel are
close to you as well as those you chose to become closer to. Go
ahead, make the overture. Tuesday you’ll find an opening in
dialogue as long as you keep it flowing. Wednesday you find out
who’s with you, who will take steps either alongside you or
parallel to your direction. Let them know your thoughts.
Thursday, the 5th, we all feel the theme of change, big change.
It’s now time to break out of the box if we can’t alter
the way the box itself is shaped and held together. Some of that
impulse will put us in conflict with friends or associates. Or we
may find our feelings are being manipulated: Focus on fundamental
principles. Rather than engage in a struggle, pull the power to
fuel the situation into yourself.
Saturday, the 7th, you’ll feel the seat of that power within
you. You’ll know it is fed by the devotion to principle that
held your focus. Keep that focus and feel the strength it gives
you.
Sunday we’ll find ourselves making adjustments to our plans
and making changes to shore up our support systems. Monday, the
9th, brings us a Full Moon at 20 Leo with a lunar eclipse …
stay tuned.

Full Moon with lunar eclipse
9 February 2009
09:49 a.m. EST
20 Leo
Retrograde Saturn opposes Uranus with the Sun and Moon forming semisextiles
and quincunxes to them. Mars conjuncts Jupiter; Sun conjuncts Chiron
and Neptune. Saturn and Mercury are in mutual reception, as are
Uranus and Neptune. The Leo Moon is reflecting bright Aquarian energy
from Mars, Jupiter, Chiron, Neptune and the Sun. At the height of
that Moon's fullness, this energy is eclipsed. We still have the
Aquarian rays, but now for a moment the Moon's interpretation is
taken away, and our emotional refraction is lost. In the stillness
of the darkened Moon we can feel what we are ready to release.
Monday, the 9th of February, the energy of
Aquarius is strong and fresh. The mental view is clear and we find
ourselves looking to the future. It's fairly easy to let go of pride
and anything connected to it. Yet there's no sense of shame, no
judgment, some small blame perhaps. We feel a pull to move forward,
collectively. The Moon is eclipsed and it's the opportunity to release
or to be released. From what? Burdens, cumbersome structures, anything
that compresses our breath. This next couple of weeks we are meant
to step free of constrictions; take action, especially expressive
action; find the locus of our power and own it. We'll do that collectively:
the message will be, "If you're not for change, kindly get
out of the way." And we'll be able to do it individually --
get out of your own way, please. Clarify your thinking among your
friends and aim your thoughts ahead.
Tuesday and Wednesday, be practical. Take
care of the details. Clear out the clutter, in your mind and in
your closet.
Thursday feel the oneness. One world, one
wide path -- let yourself slide forward with the momentum of the
collective. Friday you can take a little time to bring someone who's
been reluctant aboard.
Saturday is Valentine's Day. Be a little choosy
this year. Not out of judgment, but for consolidation. Sunday examine
how you can achieve more balance.
Monday, the 16th, is a good day to bring the
mind to a point of focus; concentrate on what's important. Remember
that faith is strongest when we are focused steadily on what's truly
important.
Tuesday brings a charge of enthusiasm and
large impulses. Go with that. Wednesday the Sun goes into Pisces.
It's an easy day to be considerate and experience some generosity
in your thoughts. Explore it; let go of the needs of your self.
Thursday we're likely to sense a constraint,
some complications. Address them head on but thoughtfully. Don't
insist on a solution, just look to understand the problem. Stay
with that attitude all the way through Friday. Find the power in
restraint and watch the situation clarify itself, like trees emerge
from a fog as it lifts. Saturday that sense of power will become
more refined; the result is confidence.
Sunday the idea you've been waiting for arrives,
landing lightly, right where it belongs. Welcome it, then put it
to use. Monday is a day for putting thought into action, but not
forcefully, just naturally. And Tuesday, the 24th, brings us the
New Moon in Pisces. It's Fat Tuesday.
Asana for Refuge during this period: Warrior
III. This pose is a standing balance on one leg; head, torso and
raised leg are all in one line parallel to the floor. Let the foot
of your raised leg touch the wall behind you to help with both extension
and balance. You can also support the arms on the seat of a chair
placed in front of you. Be in the experience of the Warrior III
pose; consolidate your lines of force; clarify the mind; focus forward;
release any constriction; feel the vector in this pose and let it
raise your confidence.

New Moon
24 February 2009
8:35 p.m. EST
6 Pisces
Other than Saturn on its own in Virgo, the planets occupy a 111-degree
arc from 2 Capricorn to 13 Aries. Sun and Moon are separating from
a sextile to Pluto. Mercury is approaching Mars in Aquarius and
both are sextile to Venus in Aries. This year's Saturn/Uranus opposition
is in effect, with Saturn moving retrograde. Saturn and Mercury
are in mutual reception, and the pair disposit all the planets.
This New Moon in Pisces brings us Mardi Gras
on Tuesday (mardi) and Ash Wednesday (on Wednesday). The planets
form a tight band of energy between Capricorn and Aries, with Saturn
standing apart like a discus hurler winding up with his grip on
the other nine planets. These two weeks are loaded with semisextile
and quincunx formations, and our collective energy will feel like
we're playing an old piano that has a few strings missing and a
few badly tuned. You can make that piano jump, remember, if you
manage to skip the sour keys and take a few discordant notes in
stride.
Tuesday the 24th, there's a "Let's go"
exuberance in the air, and it will carry us through the week. We'll
have a feeling of big struggle in the background, and it's there
and plenty big, but we can have some fun by hooking up with the
local scene.
Saturday and Sunday we get a couple of reminders
about how serious matters really are.
March begins, and by Tuesday, the 3rd, we've
got a response to all that serious stuff. A little intuition and
some optimism will get things on the move again. Expect talk, lots
of it, and try to listen while you wag your tongue.
Wednesday, look for the spur-of-the-moment
action and go with it.Thursday, the 5th, be sure to mean what you
say and say what you mean, all day. From Thursday through Saturday,
pay attention to romance and relationship: Take inventory and see
your part clearly so you can fix whatever needs fixing -- and remember,
it's only your own self you can actually fix.
Sunday, the 8th, there's a sense of lethargy
all around, brought on by uncertainty and perceived obstacles --
okay, don't try too hard at anything. Monday and Tuesday the steps
you need to take will be more clear and you'll find the focus to
move ahead -- Just in time for the Full Moon in 20 Virgo.
Asana for refuge during this period:
Shoulder Stand. Move the legs deliberately as you come up onto the
top of your shoulders. Move deliberately again as you lower the
legs into Plow Pose and then back up into Sarvangasana. Feel your
center of gravity.
